Getting the Best Results
- Place the iPhone or iPad on a stand facing your child, around arm's length away.
- Good lighting on your child's face helps the camera detect chewing.
- If the camera can't see the face, MunchGuard falls back to private on-device audio.
- Use the "Show live monitoring details" toggle on the dashboard to see what the detector senses.
- Adjust the grace period and sensitivity (Easy / Normal / Strict) in Session Setup for your child.
Approving Videos
- Open Manage approved library on the parent dashboard.
- Add a video by pasting an exact YouTube video link you already trust, or by opening it in the YouTube app or Safari and choosing Share → Add to MunchGuard.
- If you use child profiles, switch to the child you are setting up first. Each child can have a different approved library and progress history.
- If you use the parent web library dashboard, MunchGuard will ask for parent approval in the app before importing anything into Kid Mode.
- Premium: tap Connect your YouTube account to sign in with Google and import playlists and liked videos from your own account. Access is read-only — MunchGuard only sees content you already chose. Imported playlists stay synced, so videos you later add to that YouTube playlist can appear for the selected child.
- MunchGuard does not provide open YouTube search or channel browsing to children.
- Remove anything anytime with the (–) button. Kids only ever see what you've approved.
Permissions & Privacy
MunchGuard uses the camera and microphone during a meal to detect chewing on your device. Chew-detection camera and microphone signals are not recorded or uploaded by MunchGuard. Optional parent voice reminders stay local and are kept out of device backups where iOS supports backup exclusion. Optional Sign in with Apple is parent-facing and used only for private iCloud backup and restore. There is no tracking. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Common Topics
- Why does the video pause? With no chewing detected, MunchGuard pauses by design — a few steady bites resumes it.
- Allowing camera, microphone, and (optional) motion access.
- Choosing content types to organize approved videos.
- Reading the post-meal summary and chew streaks.
- Deleting all local data by removing the app.
