Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 11, 2026
MunchGuard ("MunchGuard," "we," "our," or "us") is developed by Haider Ali. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the MunchGuard mobile application (the "App"). MunchGuard is a parent-controlled mealtime video app designed for families. We built it to be private by default: no advertising, no tracking, no developer-operated analytics, and no developer-operated account database.
1. The Short Version
- MunchGuard's chewing detection and child-facing video experience work on your device. We do not run ads, third-party analytics, or tracking.
- Sign in with Apple is optional. If you choose to use it, your approved library and meal history can be backed up to your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service.
- The camera and microphone are used during a meal session to detect chewing on-device. Chew-detection camera and microphone signals are not recorded or uploaded to us.
- A Premium parent can optionally create one private local meal recording with camera video and microphone sound. The App verifies it after the meal, then the parent saves it to Photos or discards it. MunchGuard does not upload the recording.
- We do not use ads, third-party analytics, advertising identifiers, or cross-app tracking, and we never sell data.
2. Camera, Microphone, and Motion
MunchGuard's core feature is "chew to watch": a video plays while your child is chewing and pauses when they stop. To do this, during an active meal session only:
- Camera: the front camera is used with Apple's on-device TrueDepth/ARKit face tracking on supported devices and Vision face/landmark technology on other devices to detect jaw and mouth movement. Live camera frames are processed on the device and are not sent to us. If a Premium parent enables meal recording, the same local camera session creates the temporary movie described below.
- TrueDepth / face data: Live chew-detection signals are processed on the device during an active meal session. MunchGuard does not create a faceprint, biometric identifier, or child identity profile. We do not receive or store live TrueDepth values, face confidence, jaw openness, mouth movement, or chewing rhythm data. These transient values are used only to decide whether the meal video should keep playing, pause, or show diagnostics during that meal session. They are processed in memory on the device, are not shared with third parties, and are not stored.
- Microphone: audio is analyzed on-device for chewing rhythm as a backup when the face is turned away and is not sent to us. During an optional Premium meal recording, microphone sound is included in the temporary local movie.
- Motion (optional): if you use compatible AirPods or Beats, their motion sensors can help detect chewing. These samples are processed on-device and never saved or sent.
These sensors are active only while a meal session is running and stop when the session ends or the app leaves the screen.
Optional Premium meal recording: When a parent turns this setting on, MunchGuard uses one native on-device camera and microphone session for the meal. Vision chewing detection receives frames from that same camera session. After the meal, the App checks that the local movie contains video, a microphone audio track, the expected duration, and the expected orientation. The parent must then save the file to Photos or discard it. The temporary file is not uploaded to MunchGuard, third parties, or iCloud by the App.
3. Information Stored on Your Device
The following is stored locally on your device so the app can work. It stays on your device and is not uploaded to us:
- The exact videos and playlists you approve, your app settings (such as meal length and sensitivity), and your selected content type.
- Local meal summaries such as session length, a "mindful" score, and chew streaks.
- Optional parent voice reminder audio, if you record one.
- An optional Premium meal recording, kept temporarily until a parent saves it to Photos or discards it.
- Video links a parent shares to MunchGuard from another app (for example via the YouTube app or Safari share sheet) are held briefly in the app's private on-device container until MunchGuard imports them into the approved library. They are not sent to us.
- Video links a parent sends from the public web library dashboard back into the app require parent approval in the app before they are added to Kid Mode.
Local parent voice reminder audio is excluded from device backups where supported by iOS. It remains a local parent-created file used only for the pause reminder.
You can remove approved videos at any time inside the app. Deleting the App removes local app data from your device.
4. Optional Sign in with Apple and iCloud Backup
MunchGuard can use Sign in with Apple so a parent can restore family mealtime data across their own Apple devices. If you choose to sign in, the App may store your Sign in with Apple user identifier, approved videos, settings, and meal-history summaries in your personal iCloud account through CloudKit. This backup is used only for app functionality and restore/sync. We do not receive your Apple ID password, payment card information, camera footage, microphone audio, face data, or child-facing sensor data.
You can use MunchGuard without signing in. You can also delete local app data by removing the App from your device; iCloud data can be managed through your Apple account and iCloud settings.
5. Information We Do Not Collect
MunchGuard does not collect personal information. Specifically:
- No MunchGuard account, separate username, or password is required.
- We do not receive your name, email address, payment card, camera recordings, microphone recordings, face data, or child biometric profile.
- No advertising identifiers, no third-party advertising, and no third-party analytics SDKs.
- No contact list, photos, browsing history, location, or health data is collected.
- If a parent optionally connects their own YouTube account (Section 7), MunchGuard reads only that account's playlists and liked videos, read-only, and keeps the result on the device. That data is never sent to us.
6. Watching YouTube Videos
Parents add exact YouTube video URLs and playlists they already choose, by pasting a link, sharing one to MunchGuard from the YouTube app or Safari, or sending approved items from the parent web library dashboard back into the app. Web-dashboard imports require parent approval in the app before anything is added to Kid Mode. MunchGuard does not provide open YouTube search, channel browsing, or a bundled third-party video catalog to children. Approved videos and playlists are played through YouTube's official embedded player using the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain. When a video is playing, that playback is delivered by YouTube/Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy). MunchGuard does not host, download, cache, or redistribute YouTube videos, does not sign your child in to Google, and does not share any personal information with Google during playback. We use the no-cookie domain specifically to reduce personalization during playback. (A parent may separately and optionally connect their own YouTube account to import videos and playlists they already curated — see Section 7.)
7. Connecting Your Own YouTube Account (Optional, Premium)
A parent may optionally sign in with Google to bring in videos they have already curated — their own YouTube playlists and liked videos — so they can add them to the approved library without pasting each link by hand. This feature is entirely optional, is available only inside the parent-protected area of the app, and is never presented to children.
- What we request: read-only access to your own YouTube library only (the
youtube.readonlypermission). MunchGuard cannot post, change, delete, or manage anything on your YouTube or Google account, and it does not request your name, email address, or Google profile. - How sign-in works: sign-in happens in Apple's secure system browser. Your Google password is never seen by or stored in the app. The access token that lets MunchGuard read your playlists is stored only in your device's Keychain; it is not synced to iCloud and is never sent to MunchGuard's developers.
- What we do with it: MunchGuard reads the titles, thumbnails, playlist IDs, and video IDs of your playlists and liked videos so you can pick which to add. Chosen liked videos are saved as ordinary parent-approved links, and chosen playlists are saved as parent-approved playlist items that can reflect future parent edits to that YouTube playlist. We do not send this data to our servers or to any third party.
- Disconnecting: you can disconnect at any time from the same screen, which deletes the stored token from your device. You can also revoke MunchGuard's access from your Google account security settings.
When you use this feature, your interaction with Google is subject to Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
8. Children's Privacy
MunchGuard is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian and used by children under adult supervision. MunchGuard does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents control the entire content library. Optional Sign in with Apple and iCloud backup are parent-facing restore features; they are not child accounts.
9. App Store Purchases
MunchGuard Premium is offered through Apple's App Store. MunchGuard Premium Monthly is an auto-renewable monthly subscription that begins with a 30-day free trial and then renews at the listed App Store price unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. MunchGuard Lifetime is a one-time in-app purchase. Purchases, billing, refunds, subscription management, and payment details are handled by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment card information.
10. Data Security
Local data is protected by your device's own security (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and iOS data protection). If you enable iCloud backup, synced data is stored through Apple's iCloud/CloudKit systems for your Apple account. Local parent voice reminder audio is kept out of backups where iOS supports backup exclusion.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
